Wildlife protection
On 19 July 2026 volunteers cleaned the shore and seabed at Mactan Newtown Beach and removed 104 kg of marine debris, mostly plastic and glass bottles, sachets, food wrappers and discarded clothing; divers also recovered damaged solar panels and blood-pressure equipment. Divers surveyed the Sampaguita-inspired artificial coral reef in the second year of the Adopt-a-Reef programme and found healthy algae growth sheltering small reef fish, invertebrates and attached coral fragments, with more reef structures scheduled for September.
The measured result
Attendance was recorded on the day. Where planting is involved the survival count is taken again at sixty or ninety days, which is always a smaller number than the one announced on the day, and the only one worth publishing.

Organised by Savoy Hotel Mactan Newtown with the Philippine Coast Guard, PCG Auxiliary, Feel Deep, Lapu-Lapu CENRO, SEED4COM and Jokai Cruises.
These are specific because the organiser has run this before and knows exactly what goes wrong.
